Absolutely! We believe in creating a unique sonic identity for each artist. During our initial consultation, we'll delve deep into your musical vision, influences, and sonic goals. Then, leveraging our expertise and extensive analog and digital equipment collection, we'll craft a unique sonic signature that truly reflects your artistic voice.
We strive to create a comfortable and inclusive environment. We encourage you to discuss your project during a free consultation to ensure we're the right fit.
Mad Muse Studios was established in Los Angeles, CA, serving top industry names. However, in the post-2020 landscape, maintaining a full-service recording studio in Los Angeles became prohibitive to our goal of servicing talent at the highest levels, without compromise, at an affordable cost. In 2024, we brought our world-class acoustics, analog equipment, and precisely tuned monitoring to Boise, ID, allowing us to offer the same premium quality at a more accessible price, in a beautiful location.
Mad Muse Studios proudly operates from Idaho, having strategically relocated from Los Angeles, CA. Our world-class recording studio is nestled in the forest setting of Garden Valley, and our mixing and mastering studio is located in Eagle, ID (within the Treasure Valley area). All the pictures on our recording, mixing, and mastering web pages are indeed of our current Idaho studios. While some of our online presence, including older Google reviews, reflects our extensive history in Los Angeles, we've been actively working with artists in our Idaho facilities since opening, and our online presence and marketing is continuously being updated to reflect our current operations.
We recommend booking at least two weeks in advance, ideally one month or more. This secures your preferred dates, allows flexibility for your schedule, and provides ample time to prepare for your sessions.
While advance booking is recommended, we understand inspiration strikes unexpectedly. Please contact us at (208) 912-6493 to inquire about any available last-minute slots.
To reschedule your session without incurring a fee, you must provide written notice via email - [email protected] - at least 72 hours before your scheduled start time. This allows for one penalty-free reschedule of your session, which must then take place within 30 days of the original scheduled date. If you reschedule with less than 72 hours' notice, a fee equal to 100% of the session cost will apply.
Your session time is reserved specifically for you. If you anticipate arriving late, please contact us immediately at (208) 912-6493. Please note that your session will still conclude at the pre-scheduled wrap time, and you will be responsible for the full session fee regardless of your arrival time.
In such "Force Majeure" events, we'll reschedule your session for a mutually agreeable date and time. No refunds are issued for delays or cancellations caused by these events.

Overtime charges are due immediately for the session to continue. Please communicate any time concerns with your engineer as soon as possible.

Our experienced team and top-tier gear deliver efficient, high-quality results that maximize your music's potential, leading to better ROI through increased streams, fan engagement, and opportunities, saving you money in the long run.

Recording live captures energy and spontaneity, while individual tracking offers more control. We often use a hybrid approach, recording the rhythm section (drums and bass) live and overdubbing other instruments. We can discuss the best approach for your project during your free consultation.
We typically record a scratch vocal during tracking for feel, then overdub the final lead and backing vocals separately for optimal performance and quality.
We can use techniques like 'punching in' to fix minor mistakes or re-record specific sections. We can also comp multiple takes together for the best final result.
Yes, we use industry-standard tools like Melodyne, AutoTune, and ReVoice to correct pitch and timing. Although, sometimes, re-recording is the better option for the best outcome.
Absolutely! We encourage you to bring and use your favorite effects pedals. Our experienced engineers may also recommend alternative approaches utilizing studio-based effects to enhance your recordings. We recommend scheduling a free consultation to discuss your specific needs.
Using a click track generally improves timing, accuracy, and facilitates editing. While some prefer a more organic feel, we often recommend using a click, especially for the rhythm section. We can discuss your preferences during your free consultation.
At Mad Muse Studios, we are committed to providing the highest quality sound and efficiency for every session. To ensure this, only our experienced in-house engineers and producers are permitted to operate our studio equipment and engineer sessions. Yes, absolutely! Our comprehensive mixing and mastering package is $799 per song, with discounts for additional songs mixed. As a unique benefit, all mixing clients receive a complimentary master. We structure it this way because we believe the mix and master are a unified process; when we work on them simultaneously, the mix you approve is the exact sound you get in the final, released version, ensuring your vision is perfectly preserved.
Mastering is the crucial final step in the recording process. It optimizes your track's loudness for streaming platforms, ensures consistent playback across all devices, balances relative levels between songs (for EPs/albums), adds sonic cohesion and clarity, and removes extraneous noises. It's the essential final polish that elevates your music to industry standards, making it sound professional and competitive.
While automated tools are cheap and fast, they lack the critical listening skills, nuanced adjustments, and artistic sensitivity of an experienced human mastering engineer. Automated tools apply generic algorithms that can over-compress or misinterpret your music, often leading to generic or even detrimental results. Our expert engineers provide a tailored approach, ensuring precise, artistic decisions that enhance your track's unique qualities.
In today's competitive music landscape, professional sound quality is paramount. Playlists curators and industry professionals often prioritize professionally mastered tracks because they demonstrate a commitment to quality and are more likely to sound excellent in diverse listening environments. Tracks that adhere to industry loudness standards and have optimal clarity and impact are far more likely to gain traction and be taken seriously.
Our mastering engineer meticulously analyzes your final stereo mix, applying expert techniques in EQ, compression, limiting, and stereo enhancement. They optimize the overall loudness and dynamic range for various playback systems and streaming platforms, ensuring your track sounds its absolute best everywhere, adding that professional sheen that distinguishes release-ready music.
You will need to send us your final stereo mix (preferably a WAV in the native resolution you recorded the song in). Please ensure there's no limiting for loudness added to the master bus. Creative compression on the master bus is okay if it's integral to the track's vibe. Additionally, provide a list of any reference songs you'd like us to consider while mastering your material, and a list of any special delivery requirements you may have.
The specific loudness of your mix isn't crucial for the mastering engineer. However, a good rule of thumb is to aim for a TRUE PEAK level of around -3 dBFS, providing about 3 dB of headroom before clipping. The most important thing is to avoid clipping (distortion). As long as your mix isn't clipping, the mastering engineer can work with it.
Maybe. During your initial consultation, we'll discuss your vision and any reference tracks you'd like us to consider. While we can work on increasing level, frequency balancing, and stereo field to match your references, the final result is largely based on the quality of the mix you provide us.
Yes, you can actively attend and participate in your mastering session remotely! Unlike traditional unattended services, your mastering session is a live, interactive experience.
Here's how it works:
You'll select and book your dedicated mastering day and time via our online calendar.
On your scheduled day, you'll join a dedicated video call where you can communicate directly with your mastering engineer and hear your music streamed live from our mastering studio throughout the entire process.
By the end of your session, your professionally mastered track will be finished and uploaded to your client portal immediately. You still receive 5 complimentary revisions after the session to ensure everything is perfect. This real-time, collaborative approach ensures precision and immediate delivery of your release-ready tracks.
Our primary goal is to achieve competitive loudness while preserving your music's clarity, dynamics, and sonic integrity.
We optimize your master to sound great across all playback systems and streaming services, understanding that while loudness normalization exists, optimal perceived loudness for your genre is key to standing out.
We also offer you control over the final loudness, with several options to choose from during the mastering process:
Do what is best for the song (RECOMMENDED): We will use our expert judgment to achieve the optimal loudness and dynamics for your specific track and genre. This is our strongest recommendation.
-5 LUFS to -7 LUFS (CRUSHED): (Not generally recommended) This option provides an extremely loud, highly compressed master with minimal dynamics.
-7 LUFS to -9 LUFS (AGGRESSIVE): A very loud master with reduced dynamics, suitable for certain genres.
-9 LUFS to -11 LUFS (MIDDLE GROUND): A balanced approach offering good perceived loudness while retaining more dynamics.
-11 LUFS to -13 LUFS (OPEN): A more dynamic master, suitable for genres where openness and transient punch are paramount.
While we provide these choices, we generally don't recommend going louder than -7 LUFS or quieter than -11 LUFS, except in special situations. We believe our "Do what is best for the song" approach ensures your track achieves its full potential.
We typically deliver the mastered audio via a secure client portal for your review. You'll receive high-quality WAV files.
Our mastering service includes 5 complimentary revisions. Additional revisions are billed at the studio's then hourly rate with a 1-hour minimum. We aim to deliver revisions as promptly as possible, generally within 3 business days of receiving a clear request.
